AndhraPradesh Minister for Industries, Commerce and Food Processing, TG Bharath, conducted a surprise inspection of the Anna Canteen functioning at the Kurnool Government General Hospital on Friday and said that the opposition YSR Congress Party was unable to digest the welfare measures being implemented by the present government. During his visit, the Minister closely interacted with elderly people, women and attendants having meals at the canteen. He enquired whether the food being served was of good quality, hygienic and tasty, and repeatedly asked the beneficiaries to openly share any problems or shortcomings in the facility.
The Minister also inspected the surroundings and operational arrangements at the Anna Canteen before personally serving meals to the people present there.
Speaking to the media later, Bharath said the inspection was aimed at understanding the ground-level reality of the scheme and ensuring that the poor and needy were receiving quality food without inconvenience.
He observed that hundreds of people from different regions visit the government hospital every day for treatment and that the Anna Canteen was proving highly beneficial for patients’ attendants and economically weaker sections by providing affordable and nutritious meals.
Expressing satisfaction over the public response, the Minister stated that almost everyone he interacted with had given positive feedback regarding the food quality and services at the canteen.
Criticising the previous YSRCP government, he alleged that Anna Canteens were shut down during its tenure, depriving the poor of affordable food facilities.
He said the present government was committed to eradicating hunger among the poor through welfare-oriented initiatives such as Anna Canteens.
TG Bharat further remarked that the opposition was unable to tolerate the growing appreciation and goodwill the government was receiving from the public due to its welfare programmes.
