Ina fresh push towards cleaner and smarter urban transport, the Delhi Government on Thursday rolled out a large-scale airport ride-sharing initiative aimed at cutting traffic congestion, reducing vehicular pollution and lowering travel costs for commuters.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta formally flagged off the Uber Airport Share service at the Delhi Secretariat in the presence of Environment, Forest and Wildlife Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The service has been launched at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, one of the country’s busiest travel hubs, and is expected to transform the way passengers commute to and from the airport. The shared mobility initiative will allow travellers heading in the same direction to pool rides through the Uber app, offering a cheaper and more efficient travel option while reducing the number of vehicles on the roads.The Delhi Government said nearly seven lakh airport passengers stand to benefit from the affordable, technology-enabled and seamless ride-sharing system. The service will operate through the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility at the airport, where passengers can conveniently access shared rides.Officials said the initiative could bring nearly one lakh app-based and airport-connected vehicles into Delhi’s growing shared mobility ecosystem with support from multiple operators and stakeholders.
