StationGhanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari has directed officials to ensure that Lift-1 of the Gandi Ramaram Lift Irrigation Scheme is commissioned in January to provide irrigation water for the second crop to farmers in Chilpur and Veleru mandals.

Inspecting the pump house construction at Lingampalli village in Chilpur mandal on Wednesday, Srihari said 70 per cent of the Lift-1 works had been completed and the remaining works must be finished within two months.

He directed officials to complete all civil, electrical, mechanical and motor-related works at the pump house within a month. Pipeline works should be completed by the end of November, followed by a trial run in December, he said. The Rs104-crore project comprises three lifts aimed at irrigating high-altitude areas. Srihari expressed concern over delays and lack of coordination among departments, saying farmers should not suffer because of administrative issues.

He asked the Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department to coordinate with all departments and contractors and expedite the works. He also directed officials to explore supplying water to uncovered villages through the Gauravelli flood canal.
