Hyderabad: In a major development, Income-Tax (I-T) department officials have swung into action over the benami activities of suspended DSP K Bheem Reddy and the alleged possession of unaccounted cash by one of his benamis.

In continuation of the investigation, the ACB, which initiated action against Bheem Reddy, had found alleged benami transactions. During its raids, the ACB recently searched the premises of one of Bheem Reddy’s benamis, Bomma Venkatesh, in Hyderabad and Zaheerabad. The agency found Venkatesh in possession of Rs 1.35 crore in cash and registered a case.

Following the incident, I-T officials swung into action and reportedly recovered the unaccounted cash from the ACB. The I-T department reportedly registered cases under provisions relating to possession of unaccounted cash and the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act against Venkatesh and others. Notices were also served on Venkatesh, directing him to submit complete details of the source of the income. The cash was reportedly collected by Venkatesh from suspended DSP Bheem Reddy. Earlier, the ACB had established financial transactions between Bheem Reddy and Venkatesh. The agency also verified the bank accounts of Bheem Reddy and his alleged benami holders.

The I-T department has reportedly collected details from the ACB for further investigation into the case.
