MalkajgiriMunicipal Corporation Commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy reviewed the implementation of projects being undertaken under SBMU 2.0 and the progress of pending works during a review meeting on the progress of SBMU 2.0 projects within the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation limits on Wednesday.

The officers were instructed to continuously monitor the implementation of projects at the field level, expedite pending works and ensure that all works are started and completed within the specified timeframe. The Commissioner ordered the establishment of aerobic composters in all gated communities under the MMC to process wet waste scientifically at source. He suggested reducing the transportation burden by processing waste at the source and encouraging the conversion of organic waste into compost.

The Commissioner directed officials to identify and register bulk waste generators under the MMC and take steps to establish biogas plants on their premises so that the wet waste generated by them can be effectively utilised.

He suggested linking the remaining coconut shell traders under the MMC with coir industries. He said a proper collection, transportation and linkage system should be created to ensure that coconut shells are not discarded carelessly but are instead utilised in coir industries.

The Commissioner advised officials to involve women members of self-help groups in converting flower waste into value-added products.

He instructed officials to take steps to scientifically process flower waste and provide training in making eco-friendly products such as dhoop sticks and incense sticks. He said the programme should be designed to provide skill development and employment opportunities to women self-help group members alongside flower waste management.
