Hyderabad:TheGreater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has ordered all animal slaughterhouses and retail meat and beef shops across Greater Hyderabad to remain closed on October 2 in observance of Gandhi Jayanthi, birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The GHMC issued the closure order and directed all slaughterhouses concerned and meat shops in the GHMC limits to remain shut on the day. According to the GHMC notice, the decision was taken based on a Standing Committee resolution considering the significance of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has requested the Commissioner of Police in Hyderabad to cooperate with municipal authorities to extend the cooperation to the municipal authorities in enforcing the closure of all the sheep and goats and cattle slaughterhouses and shops in the limits.
