G Balavardhan, president, Pebbair Press Club, stated on Wednesday that it would fight to any extent for journalists’ rights. He emphasised the need for a united movement to secure journalists’ rights, safety and welfare. In response to a call by the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), ‘Journalists’ Demands Day’ to be observed on October 2, Balavardhan urged everyone to ensure success of the protest here in accordance with the call from the TUWJ State unit (an IJU affiliate). At a club meeting, Balavardhan, general secretary Parashuram, TUWJ (IJU) constituency general secretary P Balaraju, Vice President and Joint Secretary Rajendra Prasad spoke. They called upon all journalists to turn out in large numbers for the protest at Gandhi Chowk here and make it successful. The demands include long-pending issue of housing plots, payment of monthly honorarium and preventing attacks and intimidation. The meeting was attended by publicity secretaries Ateeq Pasha and Rajesh, committee members Mannem, Rambabu, Nagaramulu, Tarun, Lakshminarayana, Ramesh, Bhaskar, Yellaswamy, Chandrayudu, Krishna, Ramakrishna, Buchanna and M. Gopalakrishna.
