FormerMP Boinapalli Vinod Kumar said the All India Students Federation (AISF) should evolve into a strong force that takes up public issues and fights for their resolution, besides addressing students’ concerns. He stressed the need to nurture a new generation of students with progressive ideas, social responsibility and democratic values.

Speaking at a programme organised to mark AISF’s 90th anniversary at the Bala Vikasa campus here on Tuesday, Vinod Kumar said the organisation’s nine-decade journey of championing student rights and social issues was inspiring. He urged student organisations to address the problems faced by Dalit, tribal, backward-class and other students and work collectively beyond caste and regional divisions.

He said increasing caste-based divisions among students were a matter of concern.

Recalling his student days, Kumar said political debates and discussions had helped develop social awareness.

He urged today’s students to use technology for knowledge and understanding global developments rather than merely entertainment.

He also called for studying Marxism and other social ideologies from new perspectives to understand rapidly changing social, economic and technological conditions.
