Communityleaders, public representatives and parents have joined hands to address the pressing needs of the Government Urdu Medium School at Khanpura, including rent, teachers’ salaries and basic infrastructure.

At a meeting held on Monday, Laksh Foundation president Dr Mustaq Ali Khan, who had borne the school’s entire rent last year, contributed another Rs 50,000 towards five months’ rent in advance. He urged Congress leaders to approach the government for a permanent school building or financial assistance towards rental expenses.

AIUC president Mufti Nadeem contributed an amount equivalent to three months’ salary of a teacher, while former deputy mayor Abbas Sami paid one month’s rent.

Khadimane Millat pledged to bear a teacher’s salary for a year. District Congress Minority Cell president Taj assured participants that efforts would be made to establish a permanent school building with benches and other facilities.

Parents sought better infrastructure and a stable arrangement for students. Dr Mustaq Ali Khan was felicitated for his support.
