Withan aim to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety and provide seamless connectivity for citizens, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation allocated Rs 120 crore for traffic management in the city.
Hyderabad city police, along with GHMC officials, on Thursday conducted a field inspection of the Model Corridor development from Shaikpet flyover to Masab Tank to resolve traffic issues and improve road infrastructure.
The authorities inspected the entire stretch; also identifying water-logging points and the officials concerned were instructed to remove obstructions on the main road to speed up the Model Corridor works.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan, along with other senior officials, conducted a field inspection by bus. Several key decisions were taken to resolve traffic issues and improve road infrastructure between Masab Tank and Shaikpet stretch.
Sajjanar stated that the traffic bottlenecks have been identified, categorising them into ‘Doable’ (immediate) and long-term plans. Karnan announced an allocation of Rs 120 crore (Rs 20 crore per zone) for traffic improvement and confirmed that pending works at KBR Park would be completed within one to two years.
During the inspection, they discussed the construction of a new foot-over-bridge (FoB) at SD Eye Hospital and at Brindavan Colony Road No 1 Tolichowki and installation of Pelican signals and zebra crossings at Shaikpet nala. Instructions were issued to remove obstructions on the main road to speed up the Model Corridor works.
Furthermore, the fixation of drainage leakages at Tolichowki ‘U’ turn and Al-Hasnath Colony, construction of CC Road from Ice Magic Parlour to Brindavan Colony and installation of a bus shelter at Majestic Function Hall and translocation of three trees near Shah Ghouse Hotel.
In order to facilitate smoother traffic flow, the officials have decided to reduce the width of the rotary at Nanal Nagar Junction and widen the road.
From Rethibowli Junction to Nanal Nagar – the widening of the road by removing the central median and trees, removal of Ramalayam Arch at Nanal Nagar bus stop, Boddu Rayi at Golf Club Road, and tombs at Shaikpet Nala to ensure smooth traffic flow and removal of three trees and electric poles for a free left from Balika Bhavan towards Tolichowki.
The works in Masab Tank include - reducing the width of the Sulabh Complex and shifting the bus shelter, land acquisition at NMDC and Dell Store (opposite S.D. Eye Hospital) for road widening as per the Master Plan, installation of height restriction barriers and warning boards on both sides of Masab Tank Flyover and shifting the electrical transformer at the Mehdipatnam end of the flyover. And also, development of a slip road connecting - Pochamma Basti directly to Road No. 12.
