MLAGandra Satyanarayana Rao and District Collector Rahul Sharma expressed strong anger over the chaotic conditions prevailing at the main hospital in the district headquarters during a surprise inspection conducted on Wednesday.

The leaders visited various departments of the hospital, including the casualty ward, laboratory, MRI section, and outpatient rooms, to assess the quality of medical services being provided. During the inspection, doctors informed them that the casualty ward had only six beds, which was causing serious inconvenience to patients, particularly during emergencies.

Taking note of the issue, the MLA and the Collector directed officials of TGMIDC to immediately prepare plans for the construction of a new casualty ward with 15 beds.

While inspecting the laboratory, they inquired about the availability and functioning of equipment. They expressed serious dissatisfaction over the lack of cleanliness in the hospital and the unhygienic conditions of the wards. Highlighting the absence of basic facilities required for patients, both officials reprimanded the concerned authorities for their negligence.

The MLA and the Collector also voiced concern over the alleged indiscipline among staff, stating that many employees were not adhering to duty hours and were negligent in discharging their responsibilities. They warned that strict action would be taken against those found guilty and emphasised the need for immediate improvements in hospital management, sanitation, and staff attendance.

They instructed officials to take urgent steps to ensure that quality healthcare services are delivered to the public. They further cautioned that continued negligence would invite stringent action from the administration.

Later, the officials inspected the women’s canteen located within the hospital premises and interacted with attendants of patients. They stressed the importance of providing hygienic and quality food. The MLA and the Collector also tasted the food items being served at the canteen.

The inspection programme was attended by Municipal Chairman Burra Komarayya, Vice Chairman Ambal Srinivas, Additional Collector Vijayalakshmi, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. Madhusudan, hospital supervisors Dr. Rajendra Prasad, along with medical staff and local public representatives.
