DistrictCollector Himanshu Shukla has directed officials to implement a comprehensive Summer Action Plan (SAP) for the next three months to avoid drinking water problem in the district. On Wednesday, he reviewed summer action plan with officials.

The Collector instructed RWS department to take advance measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of drinking water during peak summer months of May, June and July. He emphasised the need to supply water through tankers in drought-prone villages, particularly in upland areas facing acute water scarcity.

The officials were instructed to make sure that all hand pumps are functional and that overhead tanks and drinking water schemesoperate efficiently. Steps should be taken to provide adequate drinking water for livestock, he added.

The Collector further instructed that water from Somasila and Kandaleru reservoirs should be released into irrigation canals strictly based on farmers’ requirements. He stressed adoption of integrated water management practices to prevent wastage.

Arrangements such as Chalivendras (free drinking water kiosks) should be set up at bus stations, busy junctions, and government offices. Adequate drinking water must also be ensured for children in Anganwadi centres and schools.

In municipal areas, he encouraged voluntary organisations and business establishments to come forward to provide buttermilk, sharbat, lemon soda, and other cool drinks to public. The Collector announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for individuals or organisations that make notable contributions in quenching public thirst during summer.
