AamAadmi Party (AAP) Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that it deliberately caused water shortages in the national capital to gain political power. His remarks came as the BJP-led government is now taking steps to procure additional water for Delhi from Haryana.

Bharadwaj claimed that several attempts by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government to source water from Himachal Pradesh were repeatedly blocked by the BJP-led governments in Haryana and at the Centre. He said that despite the existence of a memorandum of understanding between Delhi and Himachal Pradesh, the process was obstructed at every stage, preventing the capital from securing additional water supply.

He alleged that these actions were part of a larger strategy to create difficulties for Delhi residents, particularly during peak summer months when water demand is at its highest. According to him, people were made to struggle for water while such efforts were deliberately stalled.

Highlighting what he described as a contradiction, Bharadwaj pointed out that the same Haryana government, which had earlier created hurdles, is now willing to supply water to Delhi after the BJP assumed power in the capital. He said this shift raises serious questions about the motivations behind earlier decisions.

Bharadwaj further criticised the BJP and the central government, describing their approach as anti-people and claiming that their actions would be remembered negatively. He alleged that the handling of the issue reflected a pattern of prioritising political interests over public welfare.
