DistrictCollector Rizwan Basha Shaik instructed doctors to ensure better medical services for patients in government hospitals and to discharge their duties responsibly as per rules.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, as part of the 99-day Public Governance Progress Programme and Health Week celebrations, the Collector addressed doctors and medical officers from across the district during the Safe Motherhood programme.

He directed that all hospitals must be registered under the Clinical Establishments Act and emphasised that sex determination tests are illegal. He instructed authorities to display awareness boards in all hospitals.

The Collector stated that around 10,000 deliveries take place annually in the district, with nearly 5,000 occurring in government hospitals, about 2,500 in private hospitals, and the remaining in other areas. He stressed the need to create awareness so that every pregnant woman opts for delivery in government hospitals. He also instructed private hospitals to display fee details for normal and cesarean deliveries and other medical services. He urged private hospital managements to adopt a humanitarian approach and provide treatment to poor patients at lower costs.

He emphasised proper biomedical waste management and maintaining cleanliness in hospital premises. Noting that the district is lagging in TB screening, he directed officials to effectively implement government support schemes for TB patients.

The Collector also called upon private hospitals to actively participate in all health programs conducted by the Health Department.

On this occasion, DMHO Sandhya Kiranmayi explained various ongoing health initiatives. Later, the Collector, along with medical officials, released posters on Safe Motherhood and Home-Based Newborn Care.

District Hospital Superintendent Indira, Programme Officers Prasoonarani and Raju, along with other medical officers and doctors from government and private hospitals, were present at the meeting.
