Hyderabad: AICC Media & Publicity (Communications Department) Chairman Pawan Khera has reportedly approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered by the Guwahati Crime Branch of Assam Police over his controversial remarks against the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Legally, regular anticipatory bail falls under the jurisdiction of courts in Assam. However, Khera can seek transit anticipatory bail in Telangana, which provides temporary protection under Article 21 of the Constitution. Experts emphasise that such bail does not grant immunity from investigation but merely provides a short window to approach the competent court in Assam. The Telangana High Court is likely to hear the plea in the coming days, while the Assam police continue to investigate the matter.
