A domestic murder case in Peenya has taken a new turn with police uncovering a calculated motive behind the killing. Contractor Daniyappa from Athani in Belagavi district has been accused of murdering his wife Kavya so that he could sell family property and pursue his political ambitions.

The couple, who got married 15 years ago, were living in Rukmini Nagar, Nagasandra, along with their two children. On April 2, an argument broke out between them. During the quarrel, Daniyappa allegedly stamped on his wife’s neck with his foot, leading to her death.

According to police, Daniyappa had earned crores as a contractor but had his eyes on the Rs. 3-4 crore worth of property registered in the names of his wife and mother. He planned to sell it and move to Athani to build a political future.

However, Kavya repeatedly refused to agree to the sale, leading to frequent fights. Two days before the murder, he had organised a grand feast for villagers in his native place and decided to enter politics. When his wife continued to oppose the property sale, he allegedly planned her murder.

On April 2, he picked a fight at home and killed her by pressing his foot on her neck. A case has been registered at Peenya police station, and further investigation is underway.
